Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh Pal“NIREEH“ a story collection by Dr. Dinesh Pathak ‘Shashi’ includes twenty-two stories. , they are successful ones. It presents a wide face of the problem. Many other stories like – ‘Double Standards’, ‘Slide’, ‘The flower of Palash’, ‘False Vanity’ are related to dowry and other family problems of women. These stories suggest that inspite of so many changes, dowry is still a formidable social problem, just because of which ‘father’ in my story ‘Double Standards’ wants his daughter to be admitted in co-education college, so that she might choose some sweetheart there. ‘Slide’ and ‘‘False Vanity’’ are stories of determination of women and her desire of moving ahead.
In the stories of Dinesh Pathak there is a strong version of the restless soul of a person wandering between the city and the village, who left village in search of unemployment, economic deprivation and money. In ‘Unanswered’, ‘A Delimma’ and ‘Determination’ the soulful yearning for the economy of the individual and the adondoned village is present to the extent of poignancy. . . ,. The story paints a poignant picture of helplessness and heartiness. The urge to return to the village, the desire to do something for the village and the relatives living in the village and the compulsion to do nothing, connects these stories with the present reality.
