Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalIn 21st Century, Media has proven to be the most powerful entity under the sun. The omnipotent and omnipresent media has influenced every sphere of human sustenance- from society to culture, from politics to economics. The ever dynamic domain has given rise to many new phenomena and notions to galore. The New Media and tech driven communication has also ushered in a plethora of possibilities to explore. The Digital Media has set up complete newer approaches of information dissemination, cultural production and control.Media freedom is ensured by media pluralism and diversity of opinions. As a result, a truly free media can exist only in a market devoid of monopoly. Citizens are unable to examine the government or receive the essential knowledge to make reasoned judgments in the absence of media freedom and pluralism. Media pluralism is of two types called external and internal pluralism. Media is both ‘constructed…’ i.e. created by individuals with their own agendas and biases and ‘constructing’ i.e. people incorporate the media to help them define their own social reality. The goal of this edited collection is to bring together media scholars from across the country to discuss issues of marginality in media representations.
