More recently as the first Secretary General of Indian Steel Association, he anchored it as the voice of the Indian steel industry. He has been President of the Indian Institute of Metals and the Chairman of the International Organization of Metals, Materials and Minerals Societies. For his seminal contributions to science and technology, he was conferred the distinguished alumni award from the Indian Institute of Science and the distinguished merit alumni award from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. He is a recipient of the JRD Tata Award for Excellence in Corporate Leadership. In 2018 he was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India.
