शिव पुराण का एक प्रसंग, समाचार पत्र की एक चौंधती हुई हैडलाइन, न्यूज़ चैनलों पर चीखती हुई एक ख़बर- अगले ही पल पतझड़ के पत्ते की भाँति तथ्यपरक अन्वेषण के ताप में मृत हो कर मिटटी में लुप्त हो जाती है। तथ्यों की मिटटी को झाड़ कर जब हम उसे मानवीय संवेदना से देखते हैं तो मानो उसी निर्जीव पत्ते में जीवन पुनः पल्लवित हो उठता है। यह कथा संग्रह ऐसे ही पत्तों को उठा कर उन्हें मानवीय सत्यता एवं संवेदना के स्पर्श से छू कर जीवित करने का प्रयास है। शिव-सती की कथा, तुलसी विवाह, सीमा पर गोलीबारी, जाति के नाम पर हत्या, युवा-प्रेम, बाल-शोषण, प्रवासी श्रमिक, अवसाद और आत्महत्या जैसे प्रतिदिन के हमारे सामने से हो कर निकलने वाले घटना चक्र को मानवीय दृष्टि से देखने का प्रयास यह कथाएँ हैं। वस्तुनिष्ठ, तथ्यपरक अन्वेषण से जब हम पौराणिक प्रसंगो को और आधुनिक घटनाओं को बाहर निकाल कर लेखक की संवेदनाओं से देखते हैं तो उन्हीं के पात्र जीवित हो जाते हैं, प्रत्येक प्रसंग नए आयाम लेता है, एक कथा का निर्माण होता है जो आत्मा के कोर कोर को जीवित कर जाता है। सांख्यिकीय तथ्यों को संवेदना से जोड़ने का प्रयास करती हुई ये कथाएँ हमें अपने समाज, परिवार, प्रेम और धर्म को नए परिपक्ष्य में समझने में सहायक होंगी, ऐसी लेखक की अपेक्षा है। यह कहानियाँ सत्यता का दावा नहीं प्रस्तुत करती, यह उनका उद्देश्य ही नहीं है। इनका उद्देश्य न तो समाचार को पुनः प्रकाशित करना है, न ही पौराणिक घटनाओं का अनुवाद करना है। लेखक के पास न पत्रकारिता की पहुँच है न ही संस्कृत का पांडित्य। इन कहानियों में धर्म को, इतिहास को, वर्तमान को, मानवीय रूप में समझना ही लेखक का उद्देश्य है। सन्दर्भ सार्वजनिक हैं, स्थापित हैं, व्याख्या लेखक की है।

As the youth of today follows false heroes from the foreign lands, why do we know so little about our own revolutionaries and heroes like Ram Prasad Bismil? It is mostly because their truth, their story was pushed away from the public view to the dark corners. His memoirs and writings suffered the same fate as his memories. This book is an attempt to revive his memories because they hold answers to many questions of the future.
