Kavikkuyil Dr. Anaivaariyar
Alias Dr. Anaivaari R.Anandan, B.Sc, RMP (Hom), MA (Tam), MA (Eng), MHEd.,Ph.D.
Born in 1950 at Anaivaari village (Sethiyathoppu), near Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, South India, received his Higher Education at the Universities of Madras, Madurai and Annamalai. He is an established Tamil poet, authored about 75 works which include Poetry, Novel, Drama, Health & Medicine, Children’s works, Biographies, Historical Research, Translation in Tamil & English, besides writing popular Science series for the promotion of Science Education among the Children and Public. He is the Founder Editor of Kavikuyil- Tamil Literary monthly, since 1984.
He has served in Tamil Nadu Ministerial Service in Public Health Dept. (1974-1991) and then in Tamil Nadu Medical Service as Special Officer (Translation & Publication Wing) in the Dept. of Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy, Chennai (1991 – 2009), where he has translated 12 Tamil-Siddha Medical works into English.
His research work Siddha Maruthuva Varalaaru (History of Siddha medicine) has been prescribed in the curriculum of Siddha Medical Degree Course (BSMS) by the Ayush Dept, Govt. of India.
He has translated five Sahitya Akademi works into Tamil- each one from Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Oriya and Punjabi through English.
He has at his credit many awards and prizes that include Tamil Nadu Govt. Best Translator Award presented by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2018.

It essentially portrays the way of life with a code of conduct, where morality of the highest order is the basis of the conduct. Thiruvalluvar, the author of the book, is essentially a humanistic, interested in the welfare of the people and the happiness of mankind. He does not advocate any system, doctrine, practice or ritual. The conduct he prescribes is based on reason and logic. His philosophy is universal. He addresses all man-kind not only of his period but of all times and of all nations.
Thirukkural contains 133 chapters with 1330 couplets. It is divided into three parts, on Virtue, Wealth and Love.
Though there are many renderings in English a translation is generally identified with its period and a new generation needs a rendering in accordance with the currency of language. That is why this modern rendering in English is attempted, not in prose form but in two line verse form as the original.
This rendering is undoubtedly succinct, succulent, satisfying and seeks solution to the sorrows of the squabbling syndromes. Let every reader take this enlightening and ennobling message to various nooks and corners of the world.
