Through this book, he provides a practical guide for legal professionals and policymakers, empowering them to harness the transformative potential of AI for the betterment of society.
Anita Thomas is a highly respected lawyer with over 31 years of standing at the bar. Born on March 23, 1970, in Chennai to Late C. Jose Ukkur, a Senior Advocate, and Irene Jose, a homemaker, Anita followed in her father’s footsteps, carrying forward his legacy in law. She completed her schooling at Good Shepherd Convent, Chennai, and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Law from Madras Law College (now Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College). She also holds an M.A. in Public Administration from Madras University.
Anita’s legal practice spans a wide array of specializations, primarily focusing on Civil Law, which encompasses a broad spectrum of corporate and individual legal needs. She is highly regarded for her work in Maritime Law, where she represents companies in the shipping industry, as well as her expertise in Trademark Law, Consumer Law, Testamentary and Succession Law, and Corporate Law. Her clientele includes both corporations and private individuals, with her legal services extending from drafting agreements and contracts to representing clients in money suits, cheque dishonour cases, and due diligence for property matters.
In addition to her private practice, Anita is associated with a Cochin-based law firm, specializing in Maritime Law. She is known for her strong courtroom presence, articulate arguments, and her ability to build rapport with clients, which helps them feel at ease while navigating complex legal matters. Her dedication to honesty and integrity remains at the core of her practice, ensuring that her clients receive justice through ethical and straightforward legal representation.
Beyond her legal practice, Anita is deeply committed to community service. She is on the Board of Women’s Christian College, serves as a Council Member of the Union Christian Association, and contributes to the Legal Affairs Committee of the Chennai-Bangalore Diocese of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church. Additionally, Anita finds great joy in teaching Sunday School at the Madras Mar Thoma Syrian Church, where she worships with her family.
Anita is married to Thomas A. Thomas, who runs a public relations company. They have two children: their son, a lawyer, and their daughter, a social worker. Anita's dedication to both her legal career and community service highlights her multifaceted approach to making meaningful contributions to both her profession and society.
